How can Cognitive Analytic Therapy enhance your work with young people?

It's been a busy year for us, with a good chunk of our time focused on building resources and courses. We're excited to share some of the things we've been working on. Starting off with Lee's new book about working relationally with young people, and an upcoming introductory course in Cognitive Analytic Therapy...

"Working Relationally With Young People": publication and book launch

Lee Crothers and UK Psychiatrist Nick Barnes got to see their editing and writing work come to fruition with the recent publication of their book: "Working Relationally With Young People: A Cognitive Analytic Approach to Connecting One to One, with Families and Across Communities".

Lee and Nick share an interest and passion for helping others learn about the value and opportunities of using relational approaches to understand the experiences, strengths and difficulties faced by young people and those who care for, and about them.

Drawing on years of experience delivering mental health care to young people in Australia, the UK and elsewhere, their book offers up ways to use Cognitive Analytic Therapy and it's key concepts to think about the world we live in, with a focus on young people's need for connection and relationally informed therapeutic interventions.

With a mix of contributors who are practitioners and researchers from a variety of disciplines, the book features chapters on special interest areas, groups and settings such as: eating disorders, family work, neurodivergence, personality disorders, out of home care, and education.

You can read more about and purchase the book from the publisher, or at amazon and other online retailers.

Short Course: Introduction to Cognitive Analytic Therapy

Online Modules + In Person Seminar: Saturday October 26th, 2024

Cognitive Analytic Therapy is an integrated focused psychotherapy that brings together theory and techniques from cognitive therapy, social activity theory and psychoanalytic therapy. Developed in the UK and now used throughout Europe, Australia, India and New Zealand, the approach offers an accessible way to:

  • develop and share a relational formulation

  • develop insight about relational patterns and the role these play in our sense of self, the world, our coping strategies and problems we may experience

Lee will be running a special introductory course for those wanting to learn about the foundational principles of Cognitive Analytic Therapy. It's a great way to get some new learning and skills to support therapeutic practice, and to test the waters as to whether you might be keen to learn more about Cognitive Analytic Therapy in the upcoming 2025 training calendar. The course includes:

  • Access to Module 1: An Introduction to CAT online, on demand learning video and reading materials (to be completed prior to workshop)
